How Ukrainian Companies Create Innovation: GoalEnvision Case Overview

As a community uniting 885+ technology companies, educational institutions, and business partners in Ukraine and worldwide, we are convinced: the Ukrainian IT sector is capable of creating innovative products. Today, our goal is to demonstrate this through the project of one of our members, which has grown into a strategic partnership.

In 2024, the Ukrainian company UKAD completed a comprehensive modernization of the GoalEnvision platform – a Swedish SaaS system for defining strategic goals. The platform forecasts development and analyzes key metrics to help clients grow and achieve sustainable success.

The Need for Modernization

Although GoalEnvision’s mission is to support client development, at the start of the project, the platform had not been updated for several years and was rapidly losing ground. Business processes had become more complex, clients more demanding, and the system, unfortunately, outdated. The solution was to find developers capable of performing a comprehensive modernization without risks to existing clients and processes.

The selection criteria were strict. GoalEnvision sought a company able to implement the following changes:

• thoroughly modernize the architecture;
• create a reliable system capable of handling large volumes of data;
• develop and integrate new modules for forecasting and analytics;
• update the platform interfaces to meet current trends and requirements in design and data visualization.

The choice fell on the Kharkiv-based company UKAD, which had long been recognized in Scandinavian markets and had previous collaborations with partner companies. The decision was also influenced by their technical expertise: a focus on high-performance yet resource-efficient technologies and proficiency in artificial intelligence.

Project Kickoff

The main challenge of the project was the complex functionality. It was necessary to migrate existing modules and processes to the new architecture and ensure their interaction with new features. To meet these needs, the project began with detailed, multi-dimensional business analysis, including:

• development of a new innovative architecture;
• backend update to .NET with a focus on stability and scalability;
• implementation of a new interface for data visualization;
• review of data processing logic and performance optimization;
• addition of modules for generating business forecasts;
• creation of shared dashboards for managers and teams, focused on planning transparency and ease of collaboration.

Solution

Based on the research results, the developers built a modern system combining intuitive interfaces with high-quality analytics. The new logic, enabling complex interactions between teams, organizations, and goals, made the platform more flexible and useful. Role allocation allows departments to set their own KPIs and track progress in the areas most relevant to them. Collecting and processing data from different teams at the organizational level enables strategic planning and forecasting for the entire enterprise.

To implement all ideas and simplify platform usage, UKAD proposed using artificial intelligence to enhance recommendation quality. AI acts as an impartial consultant, processing user data, evaluating results, and generating development suggestions. It is used for setting KPIs, goals, and metrics, significantly speeding up project initiation. The AI assistant can analyze business plans, fill in missing elements, and generate a viable strategy ready for implementation after minimal adjustments.

Project Results

Leveraging their technical expertise, the UKAD development team delivered an innovative and efficient solution. Using Umbraco CMS, React, and Next.js, they created an interface that presents information clearly and does not require special training or lengthy onboarding. The backend ensures fast data processing and uninterrupted AI functionality. A reliable infrastructure guarantees service availability and data protection.

Upon project completion, the GoalEnvision platform became more competitive in the SaaS strategic planning segment. The client continued the partnership with UKAD for ongoing support and development.

Industry Impact

The GoalEnvision case demonstrates how Ukrainian engineering teams work with SaaS products, implementing innovative solutions and approaches. Project specifics – an existing client base and complex logic – did not hinder modernization, thanks to careful planning and strong communication between the team and the client.

Ukrainian developers do not shy away from complexity where it is justified, yet simplify processes wherever possible without compromising quality. Clients can rely on efficient budget use without risking reliability, implementation quality, or the range of delivered features.

Overall, the collaboration between GoalEnvision and Ukrainian developers has proven highly positive, as reflected in client satisfaction, continued cooperation, and the updated functionality and design of the platform.
