AIOS: A European Project on Open Science and AI for Researchers, Educators, and Business

Kharkiv IT Cluster has joined the international educational project AIOS (AI-Driven Open Science) under the Erasmus+ program, alongside four European universities: the University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Open University (Greece), the University of Bologna (Italy), and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway). Ukraine is represented in the consortium by Kharkiv IT Cluster.

The goal of the project is to empower individuals to use artificial intelligence to make science and research data more open, accessible, and useful for both universities and businesses. AI + Open Science = a new profession (Open Science Officer), new skills, and new opportunities.

Why It Matters Right Now

- Open data and open code are a real competitive advantage. Companies that open part of their R&D developments can more easily attract partners, grants, and talent.

- Researchers with accessible and reproducible data gain more citations and trust.

- Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming an Open Science tool itself—automating data analysis, removing routine tasks from peer review, and discovering connections that would take humans months to find.

Therefore, the AIOS curriculum is valuable not only to the academic community, but also to IT professionals who want to understand where the data and AI industry is heading.

What Participants Will Get

The project is creating a free, open course (Creative Commons) consisting of 20 modules and several personalized learning paths: for researchers, educators, IT specialists, R&D managers, or future Open Science Officers.

For IT specialists and businesses: Practical skills in working with open data and AI tools, understanding the balance between openness and IP protection in R&D, and networking with partners from four European countries.

For educators and researchers: Ready-to-use learning materials, certification based on pilot results, and participation in shaping an educational program at the European level—not just as a listener, but as a co-author.

For all participants:

The course is fully online, offering self-paced learning (8–12 weeks, ~8–10 hours per week) or a shorter format (2–3 weeks) tailored for business representatives;

Tutor support and a community of like-minded peers throughout the entire learning process;

A certificate upon successful completion.

The Role of Kharkiv IT Cluster

We are the only project partner representing the real IT sector: a network of over 600 companies and educational institutions. Our goal is to make the curriculum practical and useful for business.

This means that the voice of the Ukrainian IT sector is helping shape a European educational program—and we invite you to join this process rather than just observe it.

The pilot training starts with at least 100 participants from Ukraine and partner countries. The course is free, open, and available online.
